Dietterich explains arXiv's one-shot policy for major results
tdietterich · x · 2026-10-19
Thomas Dietterich explains arXiv's moderation mechanics: an author gets one shot at a major result in the announcements, and moderators do not actually check the proof (unless it is obviously wrong on a quick scan). All subsequent attempts must be posted as revisions — and since revisions are not announced, this keeps crackpot content out of the announcement feed. The thread was a response to questions about why a dubious paper got through.
