Meta's new commercial terms let it scrape business customers' content for AI training
jonerp · x · 2026-10-19
Per The Register, Meta's revised commercial terms of service take effect October 30, 2026, authorizing it to use automated software with created credentials to collect content from websites associated with its business customers and use it to train AI models or improve its products.
- Scope is huge: "business customers" covers anyone running ads or marketing messages, selling products, developing apps, managing Pages/Groups, or using products like Ads Manager and Meta Business Suite.
- At least a million businesses use Meta's AI agents on WhatsApp and Messenger, and nearly every news publisher has a Meta business account.
- Critics call the new terms "outrageous and probably illegal."
