"AI;DR" becomes internet slang: AI summaries are killing the patience to read
petesena · x · 2026-10-19
A long-form writer laments that "AI;DR" ("AI didn't read") has become internet slang — complete with a Wikipedia entry — typically introducing an AI summary of a post or article instead of reading it.
His concerns:
- Good essays carry a craft that takes time to appreciate, and readers are losing patience for it
- He has bailed on posts mid-read after "smelling the prompt," and now second-guesses sentences someone may have spent an afternoon on
- Everyone reads with suspicion now: readers fear AI slop, human writers fear false accusations
He wants to keep writing pieces worth spending time with, and asks what others think.
