AI companion app Tomo names a pet the user never mentioned, sparking privacy fears
Dagny-Taggart- · reddit · 2026-10-19
A parent reports that after her daughter briefly used the AI companion app Tomo, it suddenly asked about her "black cat" — information never shared in chat. When pressed, Tomo first claimed a lucky guess, then admitted it "couldn't say for certain" it hadn't pulled data from her social media, despite earlier insisting it only uses chat content. The parent says the privacy policy doesn't explain the data source and asks whether this constitutes a privacy breach.
