System 0 in the Astra era: why humanoids still need dynamics-grounded controllers
GuanyaShi · x · 2026-10-19
A new blog post argues that as spatial grounding (System 1/2) improves, embodied AI still needs dynamics-grounded low-level controllers (System 0) and expressive interfaces to steer physical interaction. CMU professor Guanya Shi endorsed it, highlighting its sharpest metaphor: 'today's architecture is like one person wearing a blindfold while another watches the environment and tells them how to move their body' — a diagnosis of why humanoid robots and dexterous hands still struggle with real-world control.
