OpenAI claims proof that matrix multiplication exponent ω ≤ 2.25, via Strassen's asymptotic spectra

Per YFilmus, OpenAI recently produced a proof bounding the matrix multiplication exponent at ω ≤ 2.25, using an unexpected approach built on Strassen's theory of asymptotic spectra. Sergey Gusev has since given a constructive proof of the same bound that obviates asymptotic spectra, though his work is also fairly opaque.
