Dev uses Claude to turn a WWI memoir into a playable 3D model of 1916 trench warfare

Developer johnallard was reading the WWI memoir Storm of Steel and struggling to picture how trenches, dugouts and nearby towns fit together, so he told Claude which chapter he was on and asked for help. Two hours later he had a playable, to-scale 3D model of Monchy-au-Bois in June 1916 — an explorable recreation of the front-line trenches with cut-away views explaining German deep dugouts (mined 6–9m below the surface, 30-step stairways, two exits), plus walk mode, labels and measuring tools.
"The future of education is so bright," he writes — AI turned reading history into an explorable spatial experience.
