Professor Makes Students Write Papers In Class Because of AI Cheating
lmoroney · x · 2026-10-19
A professor posted that he's done with undergrads submitting papers they've "written" — too much AI use. Next year, students will write short papers during class time, researching ahead and bringing printed sources as references. The post is getting a lot of attention.
Laurence Moroney responded that he likes much of it: writing in the room lets a teacher see the thinking as it happens, and short in-class pieces give students many small chances to practice.
