Professor's in-class handwritten papers plan sparks debate on teaching with AI

A professor's plan to have students write papers in class next year is getting attention: students research ahead, bring printed sources, and write short papers during class. Laurence Moroney likes the approach—teachers can watch thinking happen, and short pieces give frequent practice. His suggestion: pair it with a lesson where the class uses AI out loud, generating a draft then fact-checking every claim against printed sources, so students learn both to write and to judge model output.
