Companies pull back on AI as slop and errors pile up at Meta, Microsoft, Walmart

The Guardian reports employers worldwide are dealing with the fallout of rushed AI adoption. Meta scaled back plans to cut staff and deploy more AI agents after employees spent growing time cleaning up technical and security errors, and is re-expanding the middle-management ranks it cut in 2023. Microsoft EVP Ryan Roslansky publicly lamented AI slop: summarizing an obviously AI-generated doc gave him no new thinking, and he warned against a "doom loop" leaving an "ocean of sameness." Walmart store and warehouse workers are plagued by errors, false alerts and unreasonable expectations from AI task and scheduling tools. The poster notes this was foreseeable: the lazy corner-cutting use of a tech beats the enriching use 99.9% of the time.
