SEO predicts Google will purge pSEO pages from high-authority domains as AI Overviews replace search

SEO practitioner Gagan Ghotra predicts Google will eventually run a major index cleanup, specifically dropping programmatic SEO (pSEO) pages mass-produced by high-authority domains.
He notes an inconsistency: near-duplicate pages from lower-authority sites already fail to get indexed — or get dropped within months — yet similar pages from high-authority domains stay in the index indefinitely.
His reasoning: since Gemini-powered AI Overviews can generate a better, even personalized experience on the fly for each user, Google has little reason to keep these templated pages in the index. He expects this change sooner rather than later.
