Borges's nine stories turned into walkable 3D worlds with AI model Fable 5.1
emollick · x · 2026-10-18
Ethan Mollick used the "Fable 5.1" model to implement nine Jorge Luis Borges short stories as playable 3D worlds, each styled to match its story's mood — the Library of Babel as ink-engraving hexagons, The Garden of Forking Paths as an ink-wash handscroll, The Aleph in silver-film aesthetics.
Each world embeds brief English passages from the original (Spanish one click away). His prompt simply asked the model to make them "creative and beautiful and help us understand the point of the story"; he also had to tell it quoting Borges was fine. Playable online.
