Gary Marcus slams Anthropic's proposed bill for granting itself broad liability exemptions
AlexTensor · x · 2026-10-18
Gary Marcus expressed strong disgust with Anthropic, arguing its proposed bill contradicts everything the company has claimed to stand for and grants it considerable exemption from liability — for example in incidents causing half a billion dollars in damage or killing dozens of people.
The quoted comment from Sneha Revanur notes that Anthropic's founding logic included using its megaphone to push the world toward caution. Now the real policy test has become "how hard should it be for the government to block deployment of an unacceptably dangerous model" — and with Jack Clark saying full RSI may be possible within a year, Anthropic has been planning to tell the U.S. Congress the answer should be "even harder than it currently is."
