Fixing one typo completely changes Google AI Overview's answer
krishnabrodhi · reddit · 2026-10-18
Reddit user krishnabrodhi found that asking Google AI Overview the same question (why women often respond to compliments with an immediate compliment) produced a structurally different answer after correcting the spelling of "compliment" — even though the system clearly understood the typo'd version the first time. Screenshots show the two answers organize their points differently (avoiding self-praise, social reciprocity, diffusing awkwardness vs. relieving the "debt" of praise, shifting the spotlight, social bonding). Both are plausible, suggesting tiny input changes can steer RAG-style AI summaries down different retrieval and answer paths.
