404 Media: ChatGPT Ads Target You via Phone Number, Email and Prompts
decisionleader · x · 2026-10-18
404 Media's own tests, reported by Joseph Cox, reveal OpenAI lets advertisers inject ads into ChatGPT sessions targeting specific users by email address, phone number, or unique phone identifier — data users uploaded to OpenAI. Targeting is also based on users' prompts, which many assume are private but may be reviewed by humans and used for ad targeting, raising fresh privacy concerns across its 1B monthly users.
