First AI-generated slide appears in IEEE 802.3, detailing Meta's copper interconnect economics

IEEE 802.3 working group slides are famously ugly but information-dense — and a developer just spotted the first AI-generated one. The slide itself is substantive, covering AI infrastructure targets and multiplier effects: Meta's planned Hyperion campus at 5 GW of compute capacity ($50B+ regional investment), Prometheus at 1 GW, and a fiber supply agreement of up to $6B. At rack level, each 72-XPU scale-up rack carries ≈1,000 short copper connections and a 10-rack row ≈10,000 — cheaper per-link copper multiplied by sheer link count dominates rack-level interconnect spend, with passive components improving reliability. Design consequence: everything scales to huge numbers, compute as well as cost.
