Hacker's webcam reveal: 'remote programmer' scam run by uniformed North Korean soldiers
SumitGup · x · 2026-10-18
A Dutch anti-scam blogger Deeveeaar, who tracks fake remote programmers on LinkedIn, hacked into a scammer's machine and opened the webcam — revealing young men in North Korean military uniforms living in army barracks while working. They hid their location via VPN, wrote code in English and Russian, used AI to forge resumes, applied for remote jobs in the US/Europe, and then siphoned client data and crypto for the North Korean regime. The quoted post notes there's no reliable defense; one folk method is making candidates insult the supreme leader on recorded interviews, since that's a crime their families would be punished for.
