Letting LLMs maintain the OpenAPI spec: perfection isn't a prerequisite
charliermarsh · x · 2026-10-18
Engineer brandur recounts finding a company with a modern Rust stack that no longer generates its OpenAPI spec from code — instead an LLM periodically reviews changes and updates the spec. He argues this is probably fine: the spec may lag, but it keeps a conflict-heavy generated artifact out of the firing line. Broader lesson: in the LLM age, perfection isn't a prerequisite of success, and the do-nothing hall monitor who only criticizes others' work is the at-risk job.
