AI Film Festival Japan 2026: 68 selections from 730+ submissions across 60+ countries, AI scoring takes center stage

lmoroney · x · 2026-10-18

The second AI Film Festival Japan posted its 2026 lineup: 68 official selections and 21 finalists from 730+ submissions across 60+ countries, spanning animation, kids, creative, movie, and music/score categories. The festival runs Oct 31–Nov 2 at Tokyo Innovation Base, with awards on Nov 1.

The score category stands out: entrants scored a shared challenge film, Laundromat. Finalist Masayoshi Kurihara describes drafting ideas in Suno, using Claude to analyze frames, editing MIDI in AIVA, then synthesizing every sound in code. ElevenLabs presents a Best Use of Voice award with ten nominees.

The author also suggests a classroom format: give everyone the same 60-second clip, let each score it with their own tool mix, and compare process notes side by side.
