AI lab offers free plumbing and HVAC repairs in three cities to collect robot training data

An AI lab is offering residents in three US cities free plumbing, HVAC, electrical, air duct and carpet cleaning services — in exchange for workers wearing sensors that record video of the repair work, which feeds into AI robotics training. It's a novel approach to acquiring real-world manipulation data for embodied robots: instead of simulating household tasks in the lab, the company collects first-hand footage of actual repair jobs in people's homes.
