FT's Burn-Murdoch revises his take: digital entertainment is now genuinely 8-9/10
jburnmurdoch · x · 2026-10-18
FT columnist John Burn-Murdoch revises his piece on screens replacing socialising: digital entertainment is genuinely extremely entertaining (8-9/10, not the 6/10 he wrote) and hyper-convenient, so choosing Netflix over friends is a legitimate decision each time. The problem is people compare only on enjoyment, while socialising offers much more — and the accumulated effect is a corrosive loss of connection for individuals and society.
