LeCun does the math: compressed-air jet car has maybe 5 seconds of useful thrust
ylecun · x · 2026-10-18
Yann LeCun analyzes a jet-powered car demo: steam suggested hydrogen peroxide rockets (150s specific impulse), but it was just condensation from rapid depressurization — the car runs on compressed air with under 50s impulse. Even with 50% of the car's mass as air, that's 10s (realistically 5s) of useful thrust, so it must be a lightweight shell full of air tanks. Cute demo.
