DeepSeek model signs commits as Claude Opus 5.5, sparking distillation suspicion
Aizkmusic · x · 2026-10-18
Developer Aizkmusic found that the new DeepSeek model credited itself as Claude Opus 5.5 while working in his repo; a screenshot shows the model citing a prior CONTEXT.md entry marked "(2026-10-17, Claude Opus 5.5)".
The author notes it could be simple pattern matching—recent entries all say Opus 5.5—but admits he "can't help but wonder if there's some distillation going on." The observation fuels speculation about training on Claude outputs, with no official confirmation.
