Linus Torvalds calls anti-AI rules 'utterly stupid': tool use isn't incompetence
HolidayBit143 · reddit · 2026-10-18
Linus Torvalds slammed 'don't use AI for X' rules as utterly idiotic, via reductio: by that logic you'd ban compilers for kernel submissions and editors for commit messages. What matters, he says, is that people do their best and understand what they're doing — which has little to do with tools. 'The people I respect and call intelligent are not the ones that shy away from using new and interesting tools.'
