Celesto CI runs cache-hit jobs 23% faster than GitHub Actions on half the CPUs
aniketmaurya · x · 2026-10-17
Celesto AI published a benchmark comparing its CI service to GitHub-hosted Actions runners on an identical browser-tools job with a 2.3 GB dependency cache (730 MB compressed).
Key numbers (cache hit)
- Celesto CI (1 vCPU): 24s total, 13s cache restore
- GitHub Actions (2 vCPUs): 31s total, 15s cache restore
- Cache save after a miss: Celesto 27s vs GitHub 12s — the main tradeoff
- Full job on a cache miss: Celesto 65s vs GitHub 47s (slower)
Product details: Celesto CI runs existing GitHub Actions workflows on fresh cloud machines with dependency caches that persist across jobs. It supports actions/cache, npm and pip caching, charges nothing extra for cache, and keeps workflows, logs, test results and artifacts in GitHub. The gains come on subsequent cache hits; first saves and misses remain slower.
