JR West to deploy humanoid robots for rail work this fall, cutting crews by 30%
CyberRobooo · x · 2026-10-17
JR West is putting two work robots into service this fall to shrink crews on hazardous elevated rail tasks by about 30%:
- Mass-produced heavy-duty humanoid (lite version) for roadside tree pruning, deploying in November, with its upper body mounted on a 15m boom.
- Single-arm robot on an aerial work platform to help workers replace overhead line hardware, with 120kg payload capacity, deploying in October.
Railway crews still lose people and time to falls and shocks, and workers must climb before they can even judge the job — the machines aim to remove that climb entirely.
