SD1.5 + Flux VAE Retrain at f8ch16 Works, But Fine-Detail Sharpness Remains Elusive
lostinspaz · reddit · 2026-10-17
A Reddit user reports retraining SD1.5 with a Flux VAE without an adapter: they expanded the model channels to f8ch16 and retrained, and it now outputs normal-looking images. The VAE itself is excellent — encoding/decoding real photos standalone yields better detail than pure generation. However, final pixel-level sharpness in generated images falls short, and the author asks the community for training tricks to extract pinpoint detail.
