Dev builds siltop: btop-style monitor that shows Apple Silicon power, clocks and temps
cloaky233 · hn · 2026-10-17
Developer cloaky233 released siltop, an open-source system monitor for Apple Silicon Macs, built because btop can't show what matters most on M-series chips: power draw, GPU usage, and per-core clocks.
- Reads real power, clocks, and temps straight from SMC and IOReport, no sudo required
- Uses 1.3% of one core vs btop's 2.5% on the same machine
- Reports issues in plain language ("Busy: rustc using 9.1 cores", "Hot: fans at 80%")
- Written in Rust, MIT/Apache licensed, no telemetry, offline by default
Try it in 10 seconds: brew install cloaky233/tap/siltop && siltop --demo. The author is especially curious about readings from M1/M2 Ultra and M5 Max machines.
