DeepSeek opens up its in-house Search API at ¥5 per 1,000 calls, free until Nov 2026

DeepSeek released V4.1 Flash 1017 and opened its proprietary search engine to the public:
- DeepSeek Search: an AI-native, general-purpose engine indexing hundreds of billions of web pages, with multilingual real-time results and anti-SEO/GEO-manipulation filtering
- The API adds two new endpoints, Search and Fetch, both priced at ¥5 per 1,000 calls (billed separately)
- Calls made through DeepSeek Harness, Claude Code, or Codex are currently free, but usage-based billing starts November 1, 2026 (UTC+8)
- The V4.1 Flash 1017 weights are open-sourced; DeepSeek says self-feedback RL training improved building complete projects from scratch, notably game dev and 3D modeling
The poster is skeptical of demo-slop optimization but calls the search engine genuinely impressive.
