Solo dev's day-35 MMO log: agent-first asset workflow for 2000-player battles
max_paperclips · x · 2026-10-17
Solo developer kalint shares day 35 of building a classic-style MMO from scratch.
- The animations and models are currently janky, but he argues that's beside the point: high-quality assets can be swapped in anytime. The real goal is nailing a high-performance, agent-first modeling workflow inside a properly structured gamedev engine.
- Targets: hundreds of enemies, thousands of items, 4500 zones, 2000-player battles, small asset footprint, <1s teleport load times, fast zone travel, and eventually phone builds.
- Strategy: lock in the workflow first, then regenerate assets later with better models/agents.
A playable build is available.
