Researchers warn AI-generated fake data is flooding science: experiments fabricated end-to-end

A circulating tweet criticized by academics notes that AI-generated 'slop' no longer even tries to hide itself, and much of it is seeping into scientific research. Commenters observe that many 'experiments' are now simply fabricated by AI — a perverse form of 'research RSI' where idea generation, method design, and the full experiment pipeline are automated, except the data is fake.
They also warn that papers built this way stay online forever: even if they get published, authors are planting landmines for their own academic careers.
