Leaked Claude chain-of-thought shows model solving NSA's 26-year elliptic curve seed challenge in under 30 minutes

A screenshot of an internal Anthropic research model's chain of thought went viral: the model cracked the 26-year-old NSA elliptic curve seed challenge in under 30 minutes. The reasoning text is striking — the model first questioned whether it was "in some sort of simulated/test environment," then checked the seeds against its memory, computed that 20 clear top bits had only a 1e-6 chance, and concluded: "Wow, it's a real discovery."
The post was amplified by security researcher Steve Weiss citing "CLAUDE FOUND THE SEEDS," referencing Anthropic's announcement that Claude solved the elliptic curve discrete-log bounty tied to the DualECDRBG saga.
