OpenCode free models fail in official TUI with erroneous "free tier" restriction error
mirabhakta · ghdev · 2026-10-17
A GitHub issue reports that in OpenCode v2.0.32 on Windows, all free models (DeepSeek V4.1 Flash Free, Nemotron 3.5 Lightning Free) immediately fail inside the official TUI with the error "OpenCode's free tier can only be used from within OpenCode" — despite the user already using the official CLI/TUI.
Exhausted troubleshooting includes upgrading, re-authenticating, fresh and standalone sessions, verifying permissions config via opencode debug config, and confirming no MCP servers or env overrides. The models worked before, suggesting a recent server-side source-check regression.
