Reddit user slams Codex for over-engineering: turning a 30-second task into an hour-long run
Reaper_1492 · reddit · 2026-10-17
A Reddit user vents about OpenAI Codex's chronic over-engineering: the model piles on redundant checks and turned a 30-second startup process into an hour-long job on a machine with 180 threads and 700GB RAM. Codex's own review even admitted tests mostly replayed unchanged legacy code paths without exercising the new resume boundary. The author says nothing has improved since Sol 5.6, blames the underlying "cyber" models, and argues Claude is a breath of fresh air despite being an Anthropic critic — he may cancel his two 20x accounts if not for the usage resets.
