Dev Open-Sources WarrantKit, a Fail-Closed Runtime Containment Layer, and Challenges the Internet to Break It
Novel_Data2151 · reddit · 2026-10-17
A Reddit user released WarrantKit, an Apache-2.0 Python runtime containment layer for AI agents, and publicly challenged the community to break it — successful attackers get credited and a regression test named after their exploit.
The author lists four falsifiable, CI-tested claims: replayed or copied Warrants cannot invoke actions (the gateway consumes runtime-owned execution authority); replayed runtime reports and tampered events fail verification; after containment everything bound to the old epoch dies immediately with no credential TTL window; and external evidence cannot upgrade "observed" to "verified" or introduce authority.
A prior adversarial review already surfaced real issues (forged leases, unsigned warrants, mutable admissions), all fixed with regression tests. The stated trust assumptions: the runtime, OS kernel, and attestation key management are trusted. Attackers are asked to test the published 0.1.4 package rather than main.
