Perplexity has open-sourced SPACE (Sandboxed Platform for Agentic Code Execution), an Apache-2.0 platform that runs AI agent code in isolated Firecracker microVMs.
- HTTP API for executing commands inside sandboxes
- Pause, resume, and manage sandbox lifecycles
- Each agent task gets its own microVM with no host access; egress goes through a gateway with managed credentials
- Red-team tests: 0 successful VM escapes out of 108 attempts
