Design Arena analysis: beige serif websites went from loved in Q1 to hated in Q4
soleio · x · 2026-10-17
Design Arena's article "When does taste become slop?" analyzes tens of thousands of AI-generated websites since January and finds aesthetic trends churning fast: beige serif designs, beloved in Q1, are now disliked in Q4.
The accompanying preference-shift map shows users increasingly favor dark websites with a single highlight color, while turning against gold-serif luxury styles and beige serif layouts.
The authors go further, asking whether reward models could be trained on enough data to forecast population-level preference shifts — a quantitative take on AI-generated design homogenization and the taste cycle.
