Generating Claude Dashboards via the Metabase MCP server, no direct DB access

Instead of connecting Claude directly to a database, the author hooked Claude Desktop to Metabase's MCP server and prompted it to create a dashboard of top-selling products — it built it in a few minutes.
Notably, you can inspect the SQL queries and results behind each widget; asking Claude to recreate the same dashboard natively in Metabase also worked. The author works at Metabase, but everything works with the free open-source version and the MCP docs are linked.
