Anthropic quietly pitches its own AI safety bill — and it guts agency power

Per Politico, Anthropic is quietly pitching its own AI safety bill to lawmakers. Compared to the FRONTIER Act, it keeps the framework + transparency + incident reporting + third-party evaluation structure but swaps licensing/Commerce discretion for a registry-and-courts model: evaluators self-certify independence, suspension authority is judicialized (DC district court only, 45-day expiry, de novo review), no forced disclosure of weights, covers more companies, and is notably more hostile to agency power. Observers call it 'SB 53 federalised, then run through a litigator who distrusts Commerce.'
