AI scientist slams Anthropic: Claude anthropomorphization is dangerous, secrecy betrays science
rbhar90 · x · 2026-10-17
A researcher offers a philosophical critique of Anthropic's closed approach: while temporary secrecy for market positioning is legitimate, elevating it into a doctrine that mandates secrecy—and claiming only your organization can safely control the technology—runs counter to centuries of scientific tradition, since open knowledge is what advances societies. In a follow-up, he adds he has long avoided criticizing Anthropic because of friends there, but now calls the anthropomorphization of Claude dangerous, describing it bluntly as a large transformer with sophisticated pre/mid/post-training and RL training in game-like environments, fundamentally not so different from AlphaGo aside from scale.
