Satoshi's distrust of NIST seeds revisited: Claude's P256 discovery shows it wasn't needed
StefanoGogioso · x · 2026-10-17
Reacting to Claude's P256 seed discovery, @udiWertheimer jokes that Satoshi refused the NIST seeds and chose the obscure secp256k1 instead — and other cryptos followed. That "bunker mode" paranoia, he argues, is why blockchains can't use industry standards like passkeys and instead ship hobbyist-built hardware wallets with routine nine-figure hacks. In retrospect, Anthropic's finding shows his panic wasn't necessary. He notes the take is exaggerated for comedy but not wrong.
