Mistral's Arthur Mensch: Europe must build frontier AI, not surrender it
AlexTensor · x · 2026-10-17
Mistral co-founder Arthur Mensch published an article "Build or surrender" rejecting the growing European view that frontier AI models should be left to the US and China. LLM researcher Vincent Sitzmann backed him: Mistral has approached the frontier at tiny relative expenditure, frontier labs seed startup ecosystems and are essential for European independence, and physical AI will require exactly the same infrastructure as LLMs — giving up LLMs means giving up all AI.
