Google's Gemini 4 Argon 1M-Token Output Is Undersold for Legacy Modernization

Rohit Kelapure argues Google is underselling Gemini 4 Argon, centering on the output-window gap: GPT-6 Astra and Fable 5.1 cap standard outputs at 128K tokens (Fable reaches 300K only in Batch API beta), and reasoning tokens eat into that limit — spend 50K reasoning through a legacy dependency graph and only 78K remains for actual code. Argon's output ceiling is roughly 8x, able to spend 200K tokens reasoning and still emit 500K tokens (35,000–50,000 lines) of production code.

Google's rseroter amplified the post, citing the 1M output token block. The workflow: feed 250K tokens of legacy code, schemas and target specs, and have the model output an entire modernized microservice — API routes, data models, characterization test suites — in one atomic response, keeping type definitions and dependency injection consistent from the first file to the fiftieth.
