RustGIS v0.3.0 Ships: Pure-Rust Open-Source GIS With Built-in AI Assistant
giswqs · x · 2026-10-17
RustGIS v0.3.0 is the biggest release yet for the pure-Rust, open-source GIS that runs natively on desktop and browser with data staying local. Highlights from 150 PRs by 16 contributors: built-in search across STAC catalogs, Planetary Computer, Overture Maps and OpenStreetMap; cloud-native GeoParquet/FlatGeobuf support; GPU-accelerated mapping; Python/Jupyter bindings; and an optional AI assistant panel that can read layers and drive the map via scriptable RustGIS commands, with every action undoable.
