threepointone's hunch: mech interp is all code, so alignment could be solved like debugging
threepointone · x · 2026-10-17
threepointone (Cloudflare) shares an intuition about mechanistic interpretability: it's all code — synthetic emotions are code, reasoning is code.
His inference: if model internals are fundamentally code, decades of software engineering knowledge, intuition and strategies transfer directly. Now that we can seemingly compile back and forth between neural networks and human-readable code, alignment could be "solved" the way we understand and control determinism in code. He admits he's a complete noob in the field and plans to follow this intuition further.
