OpenAI's mass math-solutions dump slammed for not warning mathematicians first
RileyRalmuto · x · 2026-10-17
RileyRalmuto expands on a point he says Terence Tao raised: OpenAI dropped a massive repository of math solutions without even reaching out to the mathematics research community to warn them their thesis projects were about to be invalidated.
He argues math is unlike any other industry in this respect — 'math holds the secrets of the universe' and its cultural role abroad is unlike anything in the US — pushing back on replies claiming every discipline faces the same disruption.
