Debate: should Steam charge $1,000 per submission to stem the tide of AI-generated shovelware?
AIandDesign · x · 2026-10-17
A proposal circulating asks whether Steam should raise its game submission fee to $1,000 per title while cutting its revenue share to 10%, to combat the flood of low-effort AI-generated games.
AIandDesign pushes back on the framing: who decides what counts as "shovelware" — using AI, or simply being low-effort? He notes plenty of bad games aren't AI-made and some great ones are, so any gate should target quality, not the tool.
