Mapping AI safety eval: 21 of 43 orgs tied to Anthropic via three or four channels

A detailed thread and data-visualization series maps the funding and personnel entanglements across the AI model evaluation ecosystem.
- Funding web: Coefficient Giving (formerly Open Philanthropy) draws 86 funding lines, 18 to evaluator/government-adjacent organizations and 21 more to four intermediaries.
- Anthropic entanglement: 21 of 43 mapped organizations connect to Anthropic via three or four separate channels (money, shared investors, direct engagements, dual-role people); only 5 have none.
- Revolving door: Anthropic's head of national security policy Tarun Chhabra formerly coordinated tech & national security at the White House NSC; ex-White House AI advisor Ben Buchanan now advises Anthropic; OpenAI's former governance lead Jade Leung is now UK AI Security Institute CTO and PM's AI advisor; UK AISI chair Ian Hogarth formerly held Anthropic shares.
- Government testers overlap: 24 of 43 organizations have contracts or grants with UK AISI, US CAISI or the EU AI Office, including METR, Epoch AI, Scale AI and Deloitte.
- Publication control: METR says each company in its Frontier Risk Report exercised rights to redact or anonymize claims before publication.
The author stresses this counts documented routes only, not evaluation quality.
