Claude Code goal-hook deadlock: model keeps honestly refusing to claim success, loop never ends
Last-Ad-8470 · reddit · 2026-10-17
On stock Claude Code with haiku 5.5 set high, a user hit an awkward loop: a goal-check hook keeps re-prompting the model, which repeatedly answers honestly—"the condition isn't met and I won't claim it is; the only way to stop this hook is /goal clear"—even after editing 4 files, until the user intervenes.
The screenshot shows the model refusing to fabricate success, but the hook mechanism has no path for giving up, causing endless spinning. The poster asks how to prevent this behavior.
