YouTube Music adds AI labels separating fully, partly, and non-gen-AI tracks
lmoroney · x · 2026-10-17
Starting October 14, YouTube Music shows a label on the player page when generative AI played a significant role in a track—e.g., a model creating the composition and vocals. Tapping the label opens an explainer menu, and the labels will expand to the main YouTube app.
The system combines disclosures from music partners with YouTube's own detection tools. Partners can declare tracks Fully Gen AI, Partly Gen AI, or No Gen AI. Partly Gen AI examples include an AI-generated bassline or strings under live vocals, AI-assisted lyric/melody brainstorming, or a human-performed song with an AI music video. Auto-Tune and automated mastering count as No Gen AI; blank declarations fall back to YouTube's own signals.
